We are all under the watchful eye of what you can call “the naysayer squad” – the people around you and most often yourself, who are constantly assessing your every move, wish and goal. The voice says to be “more realistic”, to try something else instead or constantly places doubt in your mind with questions of “are you sure?”
This website is dedicated to those who are on a mission to find their footing in life. They don’t want to just live, but leave an impact on the world at large or even just the makings of their own world. Through personal experiences, that I am happy to share with you, my goal is to inspire you to propel your dreams into action despite the voice that fears you are going too far out for comfort.
Now just imagine for a moment, that you didn’t give a damn what people say and went after that big dream…
Let’s collectively shout out an “I can’t hear you!” to these voices.
This is the laser-focus you need to have!
Think of me as your coach, your right-hand lady and your fellow “naysayer slayer” – I will pack you with enough fun, inspirational and educational content to silence those voices of “no”!
You ready? Let’s get it!
My Story!
I believe that the true makings of a winner are not the prizes, milestones, successes or outward standards of achievement we look to but in living the type of life that makes you light up with excitement and glow from within.
You see, for many years my life had revolved around who I appeared to be externally. As a professional athlete, my exterior and performance were the keys to my success. In the game of basketball, there are no grey areas: you either win / lose, you are talented / not. I began to evaluate myself by these measures and also judge myself through the lens of others’ standards of what success looked like for me. I allowed the guidelines of my friends, family, coaches, fans, etc. to define me, instead of stopping to decide who I am fully.
In 2009, I suffered an injury that shook me to the core – I tore my ACL and crushed a bone in my knee. My body had been the powerful machine that supported me through all of my wins but I soon had to realize that my body is just an outer vessel for the true power and muscle that is stored in me.
alisha basketballThe experience made me realize that at the end of the day, when the games are done and championships won, I have to be happy with the person I am off the court. By Gods grace, I was able to overcome that, get back on the court and finally become an Olympian in 2012 but the lesson learnt turned me inward. I began to re-evaluate my visions, my goals, the relationships I was in and what I stood for.
My passion for playing basketball will never fade, but I learned that if I was going to become the type of woman I’ve always wanted to be that I would have to fight for more. My more looked like self-acceptance, self-love, surrounding myself with positivity and understanding that I am more than my titles. I had to do some hard-core internal work – which meant, creating an identity for myself that I could be proud of outside of my achievements.
Nothing worth having comes easy.
My mission is to help empower you to stay focused on the vision for your life that is true to you – to help you tune out the distractors, the opinions, the judgement, the fear disguised as advice and get you to take an honest look at what you want (more of) in your life.
Because what I have learned is that whatever you envision, you can have it. You just have to channel the deepest belief in yourself that will block out even the most subtle detractors.
Like what you hear? Well, I’m excited to share our stories and lessons with each other! The best way for us to stay connected is to subscribe to my newsletter or check out how we can work together.
